What's the Process for Dental Implants?
Whether you have missing teeth or teeth that need extraction, dental implants are the solution to a confident, beaming smile. Our dental implants at Brisbane Implants are built to last, look natural and function just like your real teeth.
If you are considering dental implants to fill your gappy smile, it’s only right to know everything you can about them. So, why wait? Let’s dive into the dental implant procedure. This way, you can make an informed decision without second-guessing.
Our Dental Implant Procedure
Here’s what our implant process looks like:
1. Initial Consultation
At Brisbane Implants, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. We know your smile is unique and that’s why we kick things off with a thorough consultation (more like a friendly chat with our dentist).
During this consultation, we will assess your mouth, review your medical history and take some X-rays and digital scans. This helps us determine whether you’re eligible for dental implants (check out our blog, “Who is a Candidate for Dental Implants?” for more info). If implants aren’t on the cards for you, our friendly dentist will lay out all the other options available to get your smile back on track.
That’s not all – you can also unload any and all questions you may have about dental implants. We know dental implants are a big decision, so we want you to be fully informed from the get-go.
2. Discussion & Treatment Planning
Now that we’ve assessed your smile, it’s time to get down to the nitty-gritty of your treatment plan.
Since we are all about transparency at Brisbane Implants, your unique treatment plan will outline everything from the procedure to the timeline and costs. Basically, we’ll leave no stone unturned. Once you’ve reviewed the plan and given it a thumbs up, we’ll get ready to kick things off.
If you need some extra prep work before we actually begin, like a bone graft to strengthen your jawbone or a tooth extraction, we’ll take care of that too. Our dentist will walk you through everything in detail, so you know exactly what to expect.
3. Diagnostic Imaging & Digital Planning
This is where we get busy with our advanced digital imaging technology, including 3D CBCT scans. Our digitally guided procedure allows us to work out the precise placement of your new teeth so you can enjoy a smile that’s as stunning as it is functional.
4. Implant Surgery
Alrighty, it’s now time for the main event – implant placement! In a minor surgical process, our dentist will place the titanium post where your missing tooth used to be.
We know you might be feeling a mix of excitement (no more gaps!) and anxiety about this part because let’s be honest – dental fear is real – and at Brisbane Implants, we get it.
That’s why we perform this part of the procedure under local anaesthesia. Basically, you won’t feel a thing and you’ll be surprised at how quick and painless the process is. All you need to do is relax in our comfy chair!
After implant placement, however, you may feel some discomfort. But don’t worry, we’ll send you home with some pain medication to help ease your pain.
Oh and don’t forget to have a friend or family member on standby to drive you home.
5. Healing Period
Now that the implant post is in place, it’s time for osseointegration!
Well, what’s osseointegration? It’s the process where your implant fuses with the jawbone to create a solid foundation for dental prosthetics. Depending on individual circumstances, this may take between 3 to 6 months or even longer. We will then place a healing abutment or a temporary crown to cover your implant and keep it safe.
As the implant fuses, we’ll monitor your progress and make sure everything is healing smoothly.
6. Restoration Placement
Well, what do you know! You’re on the home stretch of your dental implant journey – where it all comes together.
We will take dental impressions to create your custom-made dental prosthetics (could be crowns, bridges or even dentures). They will be designed to perfectly match your natural teeth, blending in seamlessly for a smile that’s both beautiful and functional.
Once your new teeth are ready, we’ll securely attach them to the implants, making sure everything fits and looks perfect. We want you to feel comfortable and confident with your smile, so we’ll make any adjustments before you leave.
7. Implant Maintenance
Now that you’ve got your amazing smile back, it’s time to keep your teeth in tip-top shape. Before you leave our clinic, our dentist will provide you with detailed instructions and guidance to ensure your implants remain in optimal condition.
The good news is, taking care of your implants is similar to taking care of your natural teeth. Brushing, flossing and regular check-ups will be your best friends. With proper care your dental crown can last a good 10-15 years and your implant a lifetime!
The entire process from beginning to end may take about 4-12 months. However, if you need additional treatments like a bone graft to prepare your jaw, it may take a little longer. But trust us, the wait will be worth it.
We understand that getting dental implants is a big decision. Our team will be there to guide you through the entire process and will do everything in our power to make your experience stress-free and comfortable.
At Brisbane Implants, we’ve seen countless patients go from gappy to happy smiles all thanks to dental implants. Want to restore your smile and transform your life?
